With a focus on our responsibility as a Higher Educational Institution, our endeavor has always been and shall continue to be, to strive for sustainability in our various spectra of performance – be it quality education, learning opportunities, global education, partnership for the goals, civil society partnerships, cultural heritage, clean water & sanitation, steps to reduce waste and waste management, energy efficiency, producing affordable & clean energy, non-discrimination, gender equality, responsible consumption and much more.
“By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development”.
The twin responsibility of SDG 4 was highlighted by Quian Tang, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, in the foreword of the publication “Education for the SDGs” . He conveyed that while education in itself is a responsibility and a Sustainable Development Goal, it plays a vital role for social transformation which is a key ingredient to achieve all other SDGs , as it helps in acquiring of the aptitude, attitude and etiquettes that can help maneuver towards a sustainable future.
To develop and implement sustainability in teaching, learning and practices, within the campus and society at large, to make an impact in the world. Incorporating sustainability in the education imparted to our Unizens .
To encourage and make sustainability a way of life for all our workforce, students, stakeholders, and for that, to lead by example.
Cross-networking and collaboration with educational institutions with no boundaries, for sharing sustainable practices and for joint innovation and to undertake consultancy projects, and liaison with government agencies, industries, and other stakeholders, to promote sustainable development in campus, as well as in the society.
To conduct and promote research in the inter-disciplinary areas of sustainable development, collaborate and interact with researchers within and outside the University, and to disseminate these findings through classroom lectures, workshops, newsletters and conferences.
