Chitkara Design School

The Fashion Department at Chitkara University nurtures responsible, future-ready designers by integrating creativity with sustainability and social impact. Rooted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the department promotes design education that addresses real-world challenges such as responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), and the preservation of cultural heritage (SDG 11).

Through interdisciplinary learning, hands-on projects, craft documentation, sustainable fashion initiatives, and global collaborations, students are encouraged to adopt ethical design practices, minimize environmental footprints, and create inclusive, innovative solutions. The department emphasizes conscious material choices, circular design thinking, and community engagement, empowering students to become change-makers who contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient world.

Fashion Revolution

The Fashion Department of Chitkara University held a 3-day Fashion Revolution Week promoting sustainability and conscious fashion. The event featured a garment collection drive for upcycling, garment swaps, awareness games, and a photobooth with pre-loved accessories. Stalls showcased thrifted and upcycled items, along with student sustainability projects. A mending workshop encouraged participants to repair and reuse clothing, fostering mindful fashion practices on campus.

Handloom Day

This event aims to educate students about India’s diverse handloom heritage and inspire them to engage with traditional crafts through entrepreneurial initiatives. It features expert talks, interactive discussions, and insights on building sustainable, culture-rooted businesses. The activity encourages students to view craft heritage not only as a cultural asset but also as a valuable entrepreneurial opportunity.

UN Day:

UN Day was celebrated at Chitkara University with a focus on one important aspect of sustainable fashion, aiming to create awareness about responsible practices and conscious consumption among students.

FASPRINT 5.0

Fasprint 5.0 exemplifies the convergence of innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurial thinking. By centering the competition on textile waste, the event prompted participants to devise inventive strategies for material repurposing, highlighting their advanced problem-solving and design capabilities. The sustainability dimension was reinforced through the deliberate use of discarded textiles, directly engaging with the pressing challenge of textile pollution.

Additionally, the initiative nurtured an entrepreneurial mindset by encouraging students to consider the commercial viability and market potential of their concepts, thereby promoting environmentally responsible practices within the fashion industry. Overall, Fasprint 5.0 provided a dynamic platform for students to engage with real-world issues, integrating creativity, ecological stewardship, and business-oriented innovation.

Payal Jain Memorable Trust (PJMT)

This event was to engage students and professionals in advancing sustainable practices in the built environment. By combining a competition briefing with an expert panel discussion, the event aimed to motivate participants to apply innovative ideas, strengthen resilience in design, and create meaningful impact through sustainable solutions.

Global Threads:LCF and Chitkara Collaboration (UEL Project)

To foster understanding and creative collaboration by enabling students to adapt designs inspired by the aesthetic and functional sensibilities of one culture to suit the lifestyle, preferences, and environment of another. The activity aims to encourage global perspectives, critical thinking, and innovation in design.

Chitkara International Model United Nations (MUN)

At the Chitkara International Model United Nations (MUN), the Fashion Design Department contributed garments for the showcase.

Craft Documentation

Students visit a craft village in India to document traditional crafts, learn skills directly from master craftspeople, and individually develop a contemporary collection using heritage textiles while exploring its market viability.
