At Chitkara College of Hospitality Management, sustainability is a core value woven into every aspect of education and campus life. We are committed to promoting responsible consumption and eradicating hunger by aligning with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Through initiatives like millet-based culinary innovations, food waste reduction, and eco-conscious campus activities, we empower students to become responsible hospitality leaders. Our focus on sustainable food practices and environmental stewardship ensures our graduates are equipped to drive positive change within the industry and society at large—shaping a better future, one meal at a time.
Community Lunch Initiative – Promoting Sustainability and Inclusivity
As part of our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, a special Diwali Community Lunch is organized every year during the festival of lights. This heartwarming initiative, aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger, brings together the spirit of giving and community welfare.
The event is led by the students of Chitkara College of Hospitality Management, who meticulously plan, prepare, and serve a wholesome, nutritious meal to construction workers and support staff. These unsung heroes, who contribute tirelessly to the growth of our institution, are celebrated with warmth and gratitude through this initiative.
By ensuring access to quality food, fostering empathy, and promoting inclusivity, the Diwali Community Lunch not only spreads festive joy but also reinforces our shared commitment to ending hunger and building a more equitable society. It is a shining example of how education and compassion can create meaningful impact.
Celebrating the Year of Millets – A Step Towards Sustainable Nutrition
In alignment with the United Nations’ declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets, Chitkara College of Hospitality Management proudly celebrated this sustainable super grain through a series of impactful initiatives. A collaborative team of students, chef faculty, and the service team developed over 100 innovative millet-based recipes, promoting the integration of this nutrient-rich grain into everyday diets.
To further amplify the message of sustainability and health, our expert chefs—Chef Ram Gopal, Chef Santosh Malkoti, Chef Ajay Kumar, Chef Rohit Agnish, Chef Aditya Saksena, Chef Setu Sharma, Chef Anup Kumar, and Chef Manpreet Singh—authored a comprehensive book titled “Magnificent Millets – The Grains for a Sustainable Future.”
This initiative not only highlighted the versatility and health benefits of millets but also emphasized their role in promoting food security, climate resilience, and sustainable agriculture. It was a celebration of culinary innovation with a purpose—to nurture a healthier, more sustainable future.
Taking the Millet Mission Further – UN Day Sustainability Showcase
Building on the success of the Year of Millets 2023 initiative, our students took the message of sustainable living a step further during the United Nations Day celebrations. They set up an interactive stall where they showcased innovative cutlery and crockery made from millets, highlighting the grain’s potential beyond nutrition—into eco-friendly, biodegradable alternatives to plastic.
Through engaging demonstrations and conversations, the students reached out to over 1,200 peers, spreading awareness about millet’s environmental benefits and its role in promoting a zero-waste lifestyle.
This initiative not only reinforced our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, but also empowered students to become ambassadors of sustainability. It served as a creative platform to inspire eco-conscious choices and celebrate the humble millet as a symbol of health, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
Empowering Rural Youth – Spreading Awareness for a Healthier Future
As part of our ongoing sustainability and community outreach efforts, students and faculty from Chitkara College of Hospitality Management visit schools in neighboring villages every year. These visits focus on educating young students about the importance of personal hygiene, health, and a nutritious diet, aiming to empower them with essential knowledge for a healthier life.
In addition to interactive awareness sessions, our students also prepare and distribute nutritious, pre-packaged food to the children. These meals are thoughtfully curated to demonstrate the importance of a balanced diet while addressing immediate nutritional needs.
This initiative supports UN Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 3 (Good Health and Well-being), promoting both education and access to better nutrition. By reaching out directly to rural communities, we foster healthy habits from a young age and contribute to building a stronger, more sustainable future for all.
Green Campus Initiative – Cultivating a Sustainable Tomorrow
At Chitkara College of Hospitality Management, sustainability is deeply rooted in our values, and our students actively contribute to creating a greener future through regular plantation drives within the university campus.
These student-led initiatives not only enhance the ecological beauty of the campus but also play a vital role in promoting environmental awareness, biodiversity, and climate resilience. By planting and nurturing a variety of trees and native plant species, students gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship while contributing to carbon reduction and improved air quality.
These drives are more than just symbolic—they are a practical step toward fulfilling UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). The initiative also fosters a sense of responsibility and connection with nature among students, encouraging them to lead by example and champion sustainability both on and beyond the campus.
